Well I know it’s an odd name for a blog ..but then whose bothered!
Some time back I read a book in which the writer insisted to make a point that how if we tried to see the situations from not only our own perspective but also try to understand the other persons point of view..how two people could be seeing the same thing ,getting a contrasting view of it and yet both can be right ,its just that we don’t try to see how or from where the other person is seeing the picture .
Now this opens doors for so many things that id like ponder on, may be because I have had problems in understanding other people’s point of view and may be I am one of the kinds who see things as black and white, without keeping any thought for the grey!
The theory which I read; almost convinced me that there is no absolute truth in this world ,its just our own version of truth; what we accept as being the true might be the biggest lie for someone else. How can we make ourselves understand the other persons point of view ,it would leave no room for argument in life if we started seeing and understanding other peoples point of view then who would see and understand our point of view and how are we going to defend it ? There would be no argument in life and no one to blame for anything and most of all in the end why bother to have a point of view when eventually you are ready to get convinced by the other views as well.
Just expanding this chaos a little more, there won’t be any thing as a favorite song because we would be so open to the idea of other’s perspectives that we would be busy trying to understand why the other person likes this other song, which we so totally hate!
But I think the best part of it would be that we might end up hurting our selves less; that would be a major plus because we would then try and realize the reasons why the person acted in the manner and ended up hurting us.!!
Well that’s a weird blog for a starter….but I would still post it because I might come up with something better later and I can stand criticism…and after all people should also understand my point of view ;isn’t it how its suppose to be !:)

hehe... this was chaotic at its best :P
ReplyDeleteStarting from the theory of Universalism, you go on and further apply it to our likes and dislikes, that too those which are purely based on our emotional preferences if I may say.
But interesting, ofcourse if you believe that relativism is the best theory describing this reality then this is how it is.
Though even if you hold Universalism to be the right explanation, most philosophers wont dare expand it to the level where they would claim that it means every one should have same favorite songs.
But this argument has wider consequences and implications, if there is no universal truth or universal constants then it means it doesnt matter what we may believe in, and absolutely there is no point in making others understand what we believe in (what we hold as true, becuase for them it is not the truth) and so in short it solves a mast majority of our problems most of which stem out from religion.
:) so relativism as a doctrine can have larger implications...
Enjoy writing, expressing!!

i m comparing everything these days! odd han:S
i dont think i meant it to sound like tht eveyrone should have the same favorite songs but yes as we r trying so hard to understand the other persons point of view ,and the reasons influencing then may be we wud have reasons to like songs tht we dont really like:S
